      back
      DARk passages

When I walk through dark passages

      with crumbling walls

      under tall statues

      glowing in dusky shadows

with cruel lips and expressionless faces,

      their granite fists clenched-

      a secret door gives way

      into dark gardens

      in muted blue light

      where pale drooping flowers grow

and yellow fingernails on decaying hands reach out of the dirt

      Here

      two lovers  lay

by cloudy bushes and dark trees,

      masked by an unnatural stillness

      Hands shuddering through electronic currents

hover over them like a medium's soft arms

      wavering in pink gaseous stillness

      --

He watches her from the shadows

      through green tinted windows

his wet fingertips pressed against the glass

the outside, blue, like dead berries crushed into air

      he walks through mauve curtains

the rough drapery slowly dragging against him

from everywhere the sudden appearance of disembodied smiles

shaking up and down in spasms

as he dizzyingly tries to keep track

they swirl through the shadows with gleaming bliss
